How this is worked out
Engagement rate = (average likes + average comments) ÷ followers × 100. It is the clearest proof that people actually care about what you post, and brands weigh it heavily. A smaller, highly-engaged account often out-earns a bigger passive one, because a “good” rate falls as an account grows, so we grade yours against your size band.

How do you calculate engagement rate?
Engagement rate is (average likes + average comments) divided by your follower count, times 100. Average your last 6 to 12 posts for a fair number. It shows how many of your followers actually interact with a typical post.
What is a good engagement rate?
It depends on your size, because the rate falls as accounts grow. Rough per-post benchmarks: nano accounts under 10k around 4 to 7 percent, micro accounts 10k to 50k around 2.5 to 5 percent, mid-tier 50k to 500k around 1.5 to 3 percent, and large accounts about 1 to 2 percent. Beating the benchmark for your size is a real selling point.
Why do brands care about engagement rate?
Follower count is easy to inflate; engagement is harder to fake. A smaller creator with high, genuine engagement often drives more sales than a larger account with passive followers, so brands use engagement rate to judge whether an audience actually listens.
Should I include shares and saves?
This calculator uses the standard likes-plus-comments definition so it's comparable across accounts. If you have reliable shares and saves data, you can add it to your comments figure for a fuller reach-based rate, but keep it consistent whenever you compare.
