How many followers you actually need for brand deals
The honest answer is fewer than you think, and it depends on the kind of deal, not one magic number. Brands now chase small engaged creators on purpose, because their audiences trust them and actually buy. Here is the ladder, from the deals open to everyone to the ones that need real scale.
The answer is fewer than you think
Nano creators, meaning under ten thousand followers, land gifting and paid work all the time when the niche fits and the engagement is strong. There is no gate you must pass before you are allowed to earn. Different deal types simply open at different sizes, so match your ask to where you are.
The threshold ladder by deal type
1. Affiliate links, from zero. Any account can share a trackable link and earn commission, no minimum applies.
2. Gifting, from around a thousand engaged followers. Brands send product to nano creators constantly when the audience is a fit.
3. Paid posts, often workable from around five to ten thousand. Micro creators with strong engagement get paid, sometimes earlier in a tight niche.
4. Ambassador and retainer deals, usually from the tens of thousands, though a loyal smaller audience with real sales can jump the queue.
Why engagement changes the number
A smaller audience that watches, comments and buys is worth more to a brand than a big one that scrolls past. That is why the ladder is a guide, not a rule. Strong engagement can pull every rung earlier, so a tightly focused account of a few thousand can out-earn a scattered account ten times the size.
What to do at each stage
Small right now, start with affiliate links and gifting to build a track record. Once a few gifted posts show real results, use those numbers to ask for paid work. As your audience and your proof grow together, pitch for ongoing ambassador deals rather than one-off posts. Each stage earns the next.
Below a thousand, start here
If you are just starting, post consistently in a clear niche, engage with the brands you love, and share affiliate links you would recommend anyway. The follower count follows the focus. Our guide for small creators walks through landing that first real deal.
